23 Balls of Rowan Denim
In a previous post I mentioned that my husband was watching the experiment with Rowan Denim to see if it would work for a sweater that he would agree to wear. You see, we live in Texas and in our mild winter he rarely puts on a sweatshirt, let alone a sweater. In fact, he has not owned a sweater during our entire relationship. So, it is a big deal that he might want a sweater. He examined my jacket made from Rowan Denim and pronounced it wearable. Good thing the sweater curse doesn't apply to married people. He likes seahorse from Rowan Denim:My friend, Laura, said that of course he liked the geeky academic looking guy. I don't know--that model is handsome, no?
I pulled out the measuring tape, measured a bit and was left in disbelief. 48 inches around the chest. Eesh. This is how many balls of Rowan Denim I need:

Kerry Cardigan
Hey--a post! After a hectic, insane week at work, I'm back to it. And, there is a really great project on the sticks-- my Blackwater Abbey Knit along, the Kerry Cardigan. You cast on the stitches for the entire body--so no side seams--and then split at the armpits and work on the front and back separately. The lower part of the sweater has 7.5 inches of honeycombs. These look great, but they damage your hands. It took quite a while to make it through these rows, but they are pretty once finished.
You can see what a large piece of fabric this produces. Once you make it through the honeycombs you add a few rows of garter stitch that divides the honeycombs from the cable section. Then you head on to the cables. Notice the multiple stitch markers? Without these, I would be lost.

Walden Pond
I'm enjoying the beautiful weather in Concord, Massachusetts. I need to take a bajillion pictures for my project, and the weather is actually cooperating!

Fall Leaves
I'm sitting in a bar, laptop in hand, looking at my honeycomb knit...That sounds like a bad joke. Let's try again.
After an eventful week of trying to finish all the little lost bits--my main work computer blew up. I scrambled around for a few days, but the one hard drive was fried. Luckily I'm a maniac about backing up and I only lost about 2 hours of work.
I left this weekend for another research trip to Concord, Massachusetts. I've been taking pictures all morning for my mapping project as well as GPS coordinates. I feel goofy walking around with all this gear--hope everyone realizes my intentions are benign!
SO, at lunch I am sitting in the Walden Grill munching on a yummy sandwich, charging the computer and hoping these pictures download quickly. I need to take advantage of the nice weather. At some point in the week, the weather sounds unfriendly to pictures.

Rowan Denim Voyage
In the midst of crazy hecticness at work (grants and more grants to send out), I managed to knock out my Rowan Denim Voyage jacket--finally! Remember that this was my Olympic Knitalong project. Ha. That was a bit of an overstep...Specifications?
Voyage is from the Rowan Denim People book. I made the two color (memphis and nashville) version in size M--36. It used the exact yardage called for (12 and 3), and I made gauge at 3 and 6.
I went with the suggested Rowan buttons, which really make it look like a fun jean jacket. Notice that the pockets are just flaps added on at the end.

Remember how I grafted the back yoke? It doesn't look that bad after washing:

And look--I even added the Rowan Denim tag to the collar. I thought it might work better on the top collar--if it is lower it would be scratchy. I might pull that out and reset it lower...

The jacket definitely shrank in the wash. Plus, that lovely denim wear has started. This is going to get nicer with age.

This was a fun knit once I found my groove. I would certainly make something out of Rowan Denim in the future. It is soft, yet warm, worn yet stable in effect, and a jacket I will wear well into the fall.
